How it works
How VisiPay works.
Six steps from scope to record. Nothing pays until the work is approved, and every payment leaves a waiver and a record behind.
How VisiPay works
See how VisiPay takes a project from scope and a pay app to line approval, payment, a waiver and a record.
The steps
Scope to record, in six steps.
- Scope
- Pay app
- Line approval
- Payment
- Waiver
- Record
01 Scope
The owner creates the project and invites the GC. The GC prices the scope line by line and chooses who performs each line. When the owner accepts, the scope locks before work starts.
Changes go through a change order.
Accepting the proposal locks the scope. After that, changes go through a change order.
Companies are reviewed first.
VisiPay reviews every new company before it's approved, and approval waits on its W-9.
02 Pay app
The GC assigns subs to their lines, and each sub prices its own line. As work is done, the GC submits one pay app covering the whole job.
03 Line approval
The owner reviews the pay app line by line. Approved lines move forward. A disputed line holds on its own, and the rest of the pay app keeps going.
04 Payment
Approved lines pay the GC and every sub on the pay app together. Money pays out only for lines that are funded and approved.
Fund line by line.
Owners fund by ACH, a full line, a set amount or a percent of a line at a time. A line counts as funded only once the bank confirms the transfer.
05 Waiver
A lien waiver is generated with each payment it covers, for the GC and for each sub. Nobody has to chase paper after the fact.
06 Record
Each approval, payment and waiver is written to a permanent, tamper-evident record: who, what and when.
How a pay app moves through VisiPay: scope, pay app, line approval, payment, waiver, record.
How the money moves
Patent-pending. This fund, lock and pay process is the method behind VisiPay's provisional patent.
-
Fund.
The owner or lender sends money by ACH to our regulated payment partner's bank.
-
Lock.
The money stays in that account until the work it pays for is approved. If a line is disputed, only that line's money is held, and the rest of the pay app keeps moving.
-
Pay.
Once a line is approved, its payment goes by ACH from our regulated payment partner's bank to the contractor or sub. Each payment comes with its own lien waiver, and every step is written to the hash-chained record.
Any currency, any rail. VisiPay is built to be currency-agnostic and to work across traditional banking and DeFi (decentralized finance) rails, with the same approvals, waivers and record. Need a specific currency, rail or setup? We build custom solutions.
Everyone gets paid at once.
On most jobs, the money passes down a chain: owner to GC, then GC to subs, then subs to suppliers. Every handoff adds days, and every party in the middle is holding someone else's money. VisiPay ends that.
-
Simultaneous payments.
When lines are approved, VisiPay pays the GC, the subs and the suppliers on those lines at the same time, straight from our regulated payment partner's bank.
-
The GC never holds sub money.
Subs are paid directly, not through the GC's bank account. No float, no waiting on the GC to pass it on, and no exposure if the GC runs into trouble.
-
Waivers at the same moment.
Each payee's lien waiver is issued with its own payment, so the waiver chain is complete when the money moves.
-
Better for the GC too.
No pass-through money on their books and no chasing sub waivers.
The Halt Principle
A problem stays where it started.
When something goes wrong on one line, it stays with the party who caused it. It never stops the whole project.
VisiPay holds. It never rules.
In a dispute, VisiPay holds only the disputed line. The parties resolve it, and the rest of the job keeps paying.
Not project management software. Not accounting software.
VisiPay is payment control. Keep the project management and accounting tools you already use. VisiPay handles the part they don't: approving each line, moving the money, and issuing the waiver, all on one permanent record.
VisiPay connects to the tools you already use, including QuickBooks Online, Buildertrend and Procore.
The record
The record writes itself.
Permanent tamper-evident record
You don't build an audit file at closeout. Each step adds to a permanent record of who approved what, what paid, and which waiver covers it. Easy, fast, transparent audits.
Privacy by role
Everyone works from the same record, but each party sees only its part. Contractors see their own work and pay, and lenders see percentages, not dollar amounts.
